The Plastics, Printing and Packaging (PPP) cluster is a key manufacturing industry employer and a major value-adding sector. The PPP cluster comprises some 330 firms employing approximately 11,000 persons. This country has a strong track record in exporting plastics and packaging materials. Opportunities for growth of this industry exist with product expansion and innovation and increased use of up-to-date technology.
The objectives of the Plastics, Printing and Packaging industry is to become internationally competitive and meet and/or exceed the standards for entry into the markets of those countries with which we plan to enter into free trade agreements. The strategy is to develop a process of certification and standardization so that locally manufactured products will be acceptable for entry into foreign markets.
The PPP Industry is guided by the following agencies: Bureau of Standards, Chemistry Food and Drug Division, Customs and Excise Division, Central Statistical Office, Vat Administration and the Government Printery.
The existence of this enabling environment will foster national competitiveness and increase the potential of the future development of Trinidad and Tobago’s Plastics, Printing and Packaging industry.
